File Description | Errors in estimation in medical studies and elsewhere can be considered to have two components: random error (or natural variation) and bias. Although the former is often the subject of most concern the latter is perhaps more insidious. Standard errors, p-values, confidence intervals, power and sample size calculations all are focused on random error only and ignore the presence of bias. Study results are trumpeted on the basis of large sample sizes and small p-values. |
