File Description | In 2004 48 human cases of avian (bird) influenza were reported in South East Asia. These were cases of a flu virus passing from poultry to people who worked closely with them. Of the 48 infected, 33 died giving a mortality rate of 69 per cent. This was an indication that a particularly virulent strain of avian flu virus had mutated so that it could live in humans |
