File Description | When psychological research on decision making began, normative models of decision making dominated thinking in the field of economics. Economists assumed that people make purchasing decisions as prescribed by optimal decision-making rules. Later research turned away from the question of whether or not we are rational decision makers to the question of how we actually arrive at decisions. In other words, cognitive psychologists became interested in developing descriptive models which specify the mechanisms and processes that underlie decision making. |
